Safety
Chris Roberts
Brookstone Safety Director
Brookstone proudly maintains an unwavering commitment to safety, focused on preserving the welfare of our employees, subcontractor crews, clients and team members who visit our jobsites, as well as members of the public adjacent to our project sites. Simply put, a successful project for Brookstone is a project completed with zero incidents.
Hazard Recognition
The heart of Brookstone’s program is a hazard recognition process. Each day before work begins, a safety huddle is conducted by all trades. During the safety huddle, each crew discusses that day's tasks and risks and completes a Job Task Hazard Analysis (JHA) which is turned into the superintendent. We believe the communication and awareness generated in these conversations is invaluable. If a task that was not on the JHA is ever observed, work is immediately stopped until the hazards can be discussed.
Additionally, each Brookstone project utilizes:
- A site-specific safety program developed by the project team
- Site-specific safety orientation for everyone associated with each project
- Orientation sticker on each worker's hard hat for easy identification
- Predictive Solutions SafetyNet to document weekly safety audits – safe and unsafe conditions
- Stop Work Authority for all workers on site
- Quarterly Safety Stand Downs
- Industry-leading programs such as “Nothing Hits the Floor”
Written practices help convey our safety procedures. Compliance verification assures we are true to our plan. All Brookstone projects receive daily safety evaluations and a weekly safety inspection. Safety stickers on hard hats indicate who has completed project-specific safety orientation and has site access. Software streamlines our safety inspection process. The database system allows us to accurately audit our projects and grade the safety performance of our personnel and subcontractors.
Brookstone is an active member of ISNetworld, the global resource for connecting capital-intensive industrial and manufacturing industries to reliable contractors and suppliers. We have centralized our compliance data within ISNetworld. We also use their Review and Verification Services (RAVS) to verify and evaluate our health and safety information and programs to ensure record-keeping meets OSHA/regulatory requirements.
